if you have ever used the excuse that ice cream is good for you because of its calcium, i am right there with you. but let's all face it. this is a very unfortunate lie. but.. take hope! i have found the answer to those ice cream cravings: FROZEN YOGURT!
frozen yogurt is a soft, frozen, and sweetened version of our familiar probiotic friend, yogurt. frozen yogurt wins in popularity over the normal yogurt, though, as it very much resembles the ever-popular dessert of ice cream. but, frozen yogurt is healthier, lower in fat, and much lower in calories, being made from mostly water, air, only 0.5-6% milk fat, and lactose, or milk sugar. also, the natural probiotics in frozen yogurt increase the good bacteria in your body and help regulate the digestive system. most importantly, like ice cream, frozen yogurt can be made into a variety of awesome flavors.
frozen yogurt is crucial to my diet because i cannot resist dessert. in fact, if i could eat ice cream the rest of my life, i would. so, upon being introduced to this low-fat yet flavorsome creation, i knew i would never be able to get enough of it.
SECRET OF THE WEEK: yogen fruz.
yogen fruz is a frozen yogurt shop that allows you to pick what basic flavor of frozen yogurt you would like (low-fat vanilla, low-fat chocolate, and non-fat vanilla) and then mix it, top it, or blend it with healthy toppings such as fruit, granola, cereal, or yogurt chips. how amazing does this sound?! it tastes just as amazing.
my first experience at yogen fruz was this past summer. since, i have driven the 40-minute drive back 3 times to relive the experience. i am yet to be anywhere near disappointed, and don't think i ever will be.
just a few things i like about yogen fruz:
- what you get is completely your choice. mix and match or go for your favorite fruit.
- it pleases the sweet tooth (i would know) but does not give you "piggy's remorse." (see bottom of page.)
- it is different every time! i have gotten a new flavor and new combo each time i have been. they have ALL been TASTY.
- there are hundreds of yogen fruz locations too, so click here http://www.yogenfruz.com/storelocator/ and get back to me about how much you love it too!
sincerely yours,
skinny miss piggy
--> piggy's remorse [pigg-ees ri-mawrs] noun. 1. the feeling you get when you eat something you know you maybe just shouldn't have, even though it was delicious. :)
what is a good portion size when i'm at yogen fruz? i have a heck of a time ordering a small. please shine some light on this issue, skinny miss piggy!
ReplyDeletehello fellow yogurt lover!
ReplyDeletei have a problem ordering a small, too. here's a couple of things you should know:
1) calories (low fat vanilla) -
small: 132
medium: 192
large: 264
so although at large is still a healthier treat than most desserts, you can see the hefty amount of calories you would be saving by watching your portions (60-132). this calorie count does not include toppings, either, so that could add at least 50 calories to your dish.
2) the portion size, although it is labeled "small", is still quite large. i've gotten a small and a medium before and the medium was almost too much for me to finish. nevertheless, i did finish it and loved every bite. so that leads me to..
ANSWER! if a small just seems like it wouldn't satisfy you and may leave you polishing off a slice of cake later for your yogurt control, i would say get the medium! And enjoy every bite. :)
